Nowadays, many more people are beginning to accept that the world we live in is in danger. The insurmountable economic difficulties, the impasse of the financial systems, the incapacity of nation’s leaders to offer wellbeing to their populations, natural calamities have become daily realities. These facts are evidences that can no longer be denied. Less and less atheist philosophers are proposing concrete human solutions. More than half of the world's inhabitants are convinced that one day the world in which we live will disappear. Surrounded by a host of natural phenomena testimonials, enough people seek to understand while there’s still time what will happen to the world. As a result, some are running to religions to find out if it is possible to escape the fate of the planet. Others without going through religions are addressing God directly to obtain from him an authentic answer. However, history of ancient times teaches us that of all who lived on Earth, only one man died, came back to life after 3 days and, ascended to heaven 40 days later in front of many witness. This man is Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth in the land of Israel.
Only Jesus affirms that he knows the will of God and that God has sent him into the world to save the world from eternal perdition. Its doctrine is taught all over the world and billions of people have accepted it and other billions would like to follow it. But what must a person do to follow Jesus Christ? Or, how does one become a disciple of the Lord Jesus?
The answer to these questions lead us to evaluate on one hand, the conditions which the Lord Himself has given to fulfill, and on the other the practice of these conditions. We will divide our analysis into three points:
A- The conditions to be fulfilled to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus
Luke chapter 14: 25-27
“Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.”
According to the Lord Jesus, any person who would like to become his student, i.e. his disciple, must make a radical decision to leave evil and do only good. And that good is the law of God that you must learn.
B- What to recognize
All student who would like to become a disciple of the Lord must recognize the points below:
1- Recognize that there is only one creator of all things whose name is Yahweh (Jehovah).
2- Acknowledge that Jehovah has chosen Jesus to save all those who practice his teaching.
3- Recognize that Jehovah God anointed Jesus as King and Lord of his creation.
4- Acknowledge that man was cursed because of his disobedience to Jehovah and that he is called to be judged after his death or, in the last judgment.
5- Recognize that no individual can give happiness to another individual.
6- Recognize that every man born on this earth through human union is educated in the values of rebellion against God.
7- Recognize that nothing on earth can give happiness to a human being.
8- Recognize that no religion can give happiness to the human being.
9- Recognize that man has gone astray and therefore has nothing good in him.
10- Acknowledge in the depths of one's self that one is lost and that one is an enemy of God.
11- Recognize that every man is only dust, made of clay, therefore will return to the dust and after his soul will be judged by God.
12- Recognize that no system of production, whether capitalist or not, can give happiness.
13- Recognize that it is Satan who is the true king of the earth and that he is the organizer of it.
14- Recognize that anyone who does not do good according to God is a servant of Satan.
C - What to do
a- Make the resolution to leave the world of evil, and earnestly desire to enter the kingdom of God Jehovah.
b- Repent (that is, to refuse to obey demons and evil spirits). Matthew 4:17;
“From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.””.
Acts 3: 19;
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out”
Ezekiel 18:23;
“Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?”.
c- Confess your sin to God and ask forgiveness in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 John 1: 8-9;
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”.
d- Accept the Lord Jesus as your own personal Savior, by confessing it with your mouth and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Romans 10: 9-11; “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.””
e- Learn to put into practice the word of God in the Bible.
f- Know that there are not two Jesus Christ, there is only one. John 3:16;
““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.””.
g- Know that the Lord Jesus will judge the world only according to his word. John 12:47-48;
“If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.”
h- Keep in your mind that the Lord Jesus is righteous, honest, faithful representative of the Creator God. He is not always similar from the word preached by a group of people who bear his name. Isaiah 9: 6;
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
i- Know that the teaching of the Lord Jesus is only in the Bible and only in the Bible.
j- Know that only those who live according to God’s word are followers of the Lord Jesus. John 14:21;
“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”.
k- Know that everyone who practices evil is not of God, but from the Devil. 1John 3:8;
“Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”
l- Know that the devil also preaches the Bible, negatively, by exciting human beings to sin against God. That, the devil has his own preachers, as the Lord says in Matthew 7: 15-20
““Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, you will recognize them by their fruits.””
m- To be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (that is, to be immersed in water). Marc 16: 16;
“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”.
n- Seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit by simply asking the Lord to give it to you. Acts 2: 38;
“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.””
Acts 10: 44;
“While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.”
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO AVOID SATAN'S AND HIS DISCIPLE’S TRAPS.
It is essential that whoever wants to become a disciple of the Lord Jesus be certain of the following:
1- To be sure that Jehovah is omniscient and omnipotent: he knows everything and sees everything. Psalm 139: 7-12;
“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.”.
2- Be sure that the 66 books of the Bible contain everything you need for prosperity and real knowledge.
3- Have confidence in Jesus Christ. Confidence, which is faith, is not naivety, nor mere belief. Faith is a set of divine proofs and knowledge that one who accepts the Lord possesses. We must not accept anything without the Lord Jesus confirming it to us. Because he is alive and with us in our daily life. Any acceptance without proof is the way of error. Hebrews 11: 1;
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”, Romans 10: 17;
“So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”.
4- Only the Bible teaches us what is good and what is wrong. For Jehovah is the teacher as the Lord Jesus says in John 6: 43-47
“Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.””
5- To submit only to the teaching of the Lord Jesus, not to the comments that help us to meditate on the Bible. Matthew 7: 24;
““Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.””
John 8:31-32
“So, Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.””
James 1:22
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”.
6- Know that what is written in the Bible is a reality and that it must happen in our daily life.
7- To know that there is nothing in common between the Lord Jesus, King of heaven and earth anointed by God and the religions of men. John 14:6;
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.””
8- Pray at all times. That is speak to God as you speak to your father, because he is your own father. Colossians 4:2;
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”.
9- Never confuse your desires and your passions with the plans of The Lord God Almighty. God forgives us our sins so that we may become obedient, love Him, and do good instead of talking about good. Isaiah 55:7-9
“let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
3 John 1:11
“Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.”
If we put these few notions into practice, we enter the discipleship of the Lord Jesus Christ.
May the name of the Lord Jesus be glorified, and the name of God be glorified in the name of Jesus Christ.
